A senior figure in the Kinahan crime gang has been charged in Holland with attempted manslaughter.

The 29-year-old from Drimnagh in Dublin was one of four men arrested by armed police in Amsterdam last Sunday night after a man ran to a police patrol and told them he had been threatened with a gun.

Three firearms were also recovered.

The four men were arrested in Rembrandt Square; three inside a bar and the Kinahan gang member on the street outside.

Dutch police believed he was attempting to shoot another man but the gun jammed.

The three other men, a 23-year-old from Dublin and the other two from the UK aged 29 and 37, have been charged with possession of firearms.

Dutch police say the men appeared before an examining magistrate today and their detention has been extended for 14 days and that the criminal investigation is ongoing.

CCTV footage has been seized and the forensic audit is continuing.
