Children's support service Childline received more than 1,000 contacts on Christmas Day.
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, which runs the service, said children contacted Childline through its free phone, web chat and 'live' text services.
The ISPCC said there were also a number of contacts from children experiencing family difficulties, loneliness and mental health issues.
The Society said the impact of alcohol abuse in the home over Christmas was also evident in the calls yesterday.
A team of 61 volunteers was on hand on Christmas Day to offer support to children who made contact with Childline.
