The Government has lost a vote on an amendment to the Road Traffic Bill proposed by Sinn Féin.

The amendment, tabled by TD Imelda Munster, was passed by 58 votes to 50.

It proposes to have 'non-motorised transport', including rickshaws, regulated by the National Transport Authority.

The amendment was passed with the support of Fianna Fáil, the second time in the last week the party has supported Sinn Féin against the Government.

Last week, a Government amendment to a Sinn Féin motion on pension equality legislation was defeated.

A subsequent Fianna Fáil amendment to that motion was passed with the Government abstaining.
