The European soccer championship, Euro 2016, was the most searched for topic through Google's search engine in Ireland this year, data released by the company reveals.
The Republic of Ireland team progressed through the group stage at the Euros before being knocked out by the hosts France in the Round of 16.
However, the hit augmented reality game, Pokemon Go, which swept the globe during the summer was also of big interest to Google users in Ireland, while the death of musician David Bowie also had people searching.
The Google Year in Search also reveals that Brexit, the US election and "Ireland election 2016" were the most commonly explored news stories on the online platform.
US politicians Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Saunders were the top three politicians most inquired about by Google users in Ireland.
The three politicians, as well as Theresa May, the late Jo Cox, Boris Johnson and Fidel Castro, dominated the first seven places in the list of most searched for political figures, with domestic representatives Joan Burton, Lucinda Creighton and Gerry Adams making up the rest of the top ten.
2016 was a highly unusual year for the number of deaths of celebrities, and this is reflected in the data, with musicians David Bowie and Prince, actor Alan Rickman and Munster and Irish rugby legend Anthony Foley among the most researched people who passed away during the last 12 months.
In terms of sport, Euro 2016, the Olympics, the Ireland v New Zealand rugby match and the Six Nations all dominated searches.
Manchester United manager José Mourinho was the most Googled sportsperson, followed by US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and Irish boxer Michael Conlan.
Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman and Deadpool were the three most commonly inquired-about movies.
The chief focus of the Netflix series Making a Murderer, Steven Avery, musician Bruce Springsteen and Irish UFC star Conor McGregor were the men searched for most often by Google users in Ireland.
Hillary Clinton, Meghan Markle - the actress and girlfriend of Prince Harry, and actress Stephanie McConnell topped the list of women.
When it came to search terms beginning with "What is?", Pokemon Go gathered the largest quantity of searches, followed by Brexit and "A Hung Dáil".
Similarly, the most probed "How to?" search questions were "Play Pokemon Go" and "Register to Vote".
But "When is?" questions were dominated by the Lantern Festival, Black Friday and Mother's Day.
On the tech front, the iPhone was the most looked up device, followed by Google Pixel and Nintendo Switch.
The data also gives an insight into what we cook, with spaghetti bolognese, vegetarian and apple tart the most looked for recipes.
