There has been a slight reduction in the number of homeless families in Dublin, although the total figure is still above 1,000.

Figures released from the Department of Housing show there were 1,023 families in Dublin living in emergency accommodation in November - compared to 1,026 in October.

The number of children who are without a home remains the same at 2,110.

The statistics also show there were 3,024 homeless adults in November, 12 fewer than the month before.

Minister for Housing Simon Coveney said he notes today's figures but they are a stark reminder of the difficulties still being faced.

He said significant additional resources for tackling homelessness are being delivered.

The Fr Peter McVerry Trust said there have been slight dips before, such as in December 2015, but then a major increase the month after.
