A Co Offaly man who has trained almost 1,500 people in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been named Volunteer of the Year.
David McEvoy is among a number of extraordinary volunteers who were recognised in Dublin tonight.
He was trained in CPR for just three weeks, in 2012 when his father had a cardiac arrest. He was able to start resuscitation until the ambulance arrived.
After that, he set up a First Responders team in Birr where they have both saved the lives of people in the area and trained many people in the town.
There were almost 500 nominations for tonight's awards and there are 1.2 million people who help out in local communities across Ireland.
