Gardaí are holding a National Property Recovered Day in a bid to reunite recovered stolen property with the rightful owners.

The public is being invited to attend certain Garda stations around the country where photographs of property can be viewed.

The recovered property is also available to view on garda.ie.

There were approximately 24,000 burglaries across Ireland last year, resulting in the theft of thousands of valuable items such as jewellery, cameras and power tools.

Gardaí say that most stolen or lost property recovered by them is immediately returned to its rightful owner.

However, it says sometimes it is not possible to identify the owner. Such items remain with gardaí for a year and a day before being disposed of.
