A US healthcare services company is to establish a new centre in Limerick, which will bring 300 jobs to the city over the next five years.
Fazzi Healthcare, headquartered in Northampton in Massachusetts, provides healthcare and coding services to countries across the world.
Medical coding is a regulated and specialised service.
It involves the transformation of a whole range of healthcare information including diagnosis, treatments, procedures and outcomes into a universal code known as International Classification of Diseases (ICD), which is overseen by the World Health Organization.
Most countries, including Ireland, use the code in their public and private health services.
It is the first medical coding company to set up in Ireland, and has already begun providing coding services to the homecare and hospice sectors in the US.
The investment by Fazzi is a significant one, as it is a new and emerging business activity in the medical services sector, and a valuable addition to the profile of the life science sector in the midwest.
The investment is supported by IDA Ireland and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.
