A Co Mayo construction company has pleaded guilty in the circuit court to a breach of safety, health and welfare regulations at the Connacht Gold plant in Longford where two men died in an accident three years ago.

Vincent Ruane Construction Ltd and its director Michael Vincent Ruane were before the court in Longford today with Aurivo Co-Operative Society Ltd.

They faced ten charges of breaching regulations at the agriculture supply store on Athlone Road in Longford.

When the case came before Circuit Court Judge John Hannan, he was told the construction company had pleaded guilty to one offence and the State was not proceeding with six other charges against Michael Vincent Ruane personally or Aurivo Co-Operative Society Ltd.

Father-of-three Sean Mulleady, 47, and father-of-two Pat Gaffney, who was in his mid 60s, both died after a wall collapsed at the store in January 2013.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on 14 July.
