A man charged in connection with an assault in Waterford city where another man had his two fingers a thumb cut off has been granted bail.
20-year-old Dean Flynn, of Crystal Court in Ballybeg, was hospitalised after an attack on the Green at Priory Lawn, Ballybeg shortly before 3pm on Monday 30 May.
Michael Stokes, 28, of Clonard Park in Ballybeg, was arrested and held for questioning.
He appeared at Waterford District Court on a charge of asaulting Mr Flynn and causing him harm.
Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Garda Darren Colfer told Judge Kevin Staunton that Mr Stokes offered "no thank you" when he was informed of the charge.
Despite garda objections, Mr Stokes was granted bail on an independent surety of €1,000 with half to be lodged in cash.
Mr Stokes will appear in court on the matter again on 28 June.
Two others have since been arrested in connection with the investigation into the case. Files are being prepared by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
