Fianna Fáil's finance spokesperson has said the party's new front bench will be announced in the coming days.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Michael McGrath said Fianna Fáil will facilitate the Government, but that is dependent on key policy principles being implemented over the next few years.

Mr McGrath said the party wants to have a strong public health service and is concerned at some reports that Fine Gael is considering allowing poorly performing public hospitals to be taken over on a temporary basis by private companies.

He also said he would like to remain in finance.

He said Fianna Fáil did not want this outcome from the election, which is why they had put Micheál Martin as an alternative taoiseach on three occasions.

Mr McGrath added that the make-up of Cabinet is a matter for Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

He said the party would be moving legislation to cut variable mortgage rates to the Dáil in the next two weeks and described interest rates in Ireland as excessive and unjustifiable and said the banks have not done enough to address the issue.
