There was a 63% increase in the number of people sleeping rough in Cork city last year, according to an organisation that deals with homeless people in the city.
The 2014 annual report from the Cork Simon Community says 284 people slept rough for at least one night last year.
The report says the housing crisis pushed more and more people into homelessness, with some 1,300 people being supported by the service during 2014.
The organisation also saw an increase in the number of people availing of its soup run service.
947 people used the service, an increase of 24% over 2013.
Over one third of those using the soup run were in private rented accommodation.
The report says that after paying their rent, many people had nothing left to buy food.
These people, the charity says, live on the edge of homelessness.
