NASA has released new high-resolution images of the surface of Pluto.

The images were captured by its New Horizons spacecraft, which flew past the dwarf planet in July.

They show its numerous geographical features, including mountains, sand dunes and canyons.

The images, captured on 14 July, reveal a snakeskin-like texture on the planet's surface.

A mountain range known as Tatarus Dorsa on Pluto's surface appears grey and blue.

Another high resolution image showed colours ranging from brown to white and shades in between.

New Horizons is the first spacecraft to visit the dwarf planet.
