Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said that he may be interested in running for the leadership of Fine Gael in the future but not now.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Keelin Shanley, he said that at the moment he is "totally engrossed" in his current job at the Department of Health.

"I'm busy I have my hands full at the moment. There is no point in thinking about that ... you could spend your life thinking about those types of things," he said.

Asked about who the main Fine Gael leadership contenders would be he said it was too early to say.

Mr Varadkar said he hoped Enda Kenny would be re-elected as Taoiseach in the next general election.

His comments come after Mr Kenny said he has no intention of remaining Taoiseach beyond the lifetime of the next government.

Mr Kenny said it was his intention to win the forthcoming election and lead a Fine Gael/Labour government
