The PSNI are assisting Spanish police investigating claims that a young man from Co Antrim found dead whilst on holiday in Ibiza was beaten while in police custody.
Friends of 21-year-old Alan Drennan say he was assaulted by Spanish police officers prior to his death, causing injuries to his head and upper body.
Mr Drennan was found dead on Sunday afternoon in his hotel room after a night out with his friends.
A solicitor for the Drennan family, Michael Madden of Madden & Finucane, confirmed they are in protracted discussions with Spanish, British and Irish authorities and consular officials to ensure that the precise circumstances of Mr Drennan's death are clearly established.
It is understood Mr Drennan had been sitting separately from his friends during the flight over to Ibiza and a complaint had been made about him onboard.
After landing on the holiday island of Ibiza on Saturday, the young man was questioned by Spanish police.
Mr Drennan's father, Alan Drennan Senior, said: "What has happened to Alan and our family is every parent's worst nightmare and we want to find answers not just for us but for everyone else's child who goes abroad on holiday and particularly to Ibiza."
