Public sector pay talks were due to resume today, where it is understood management will present an initial text to unions on the possible shape of an agreement.

However, it is understood the text will not contain any details of a pay offer.

Representatives from 19 public sector unions met officials from the Department of Public Expenditure yesterday in the first substantial day of negotiations on public pay restoration.

The talks were due to resume at 2.30pm and department officials are due to present the initial text, containing an outline of the possible shape of a new industrial relations agreement for the post recession period.

The talks are not expected to tackle detailed pay negotiations until next week.

Yesterday's meetings consisted of a plenary session and in a number of side meetings.

The talks, which are being facilitated by the Labour Relations Commission, are expected to last until the end of the month after which any agreement reached will be put to a vote by union members.
