Plan Ireland has received a delivery of more than 63 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to aid the Nepal earthquake relief effort.

The airlift contained thousands of blankets, tents, tarpaulins and other essential items to assist those hit by the recent earthquake.

The aid has been provided by Irish Aid, the Government's programme for overseas development.

Meanwhile, around 100 US marines, along with emergency aircraft from the United States, have arrived in Nepal to help deliver aid to remote areas.

Their arrival comes as Nepal's only international airport has banned larger aircraft carrying aid from landing, because of concerns over its runway.

More than 7,000 people died and over 14,000 were injured in the earthquake.
