The body of 24-year-old Karen Buckley is expected to be returned to her home at Mourneabbey in north Cork this weekend, following its release late this afternoon by the Procurator Fiscal, part of Scotland's prosecution service in Glasgow.
The release of the body follows completion of a second post mortem examination, which had been requested by lawyers for 21-year-old Alexander Pacteau, the man charged with the student's murder.
The Buckley family was informed of the release this evening by investigating police in Glasgow.
It is understood preparations are already being made for the return of Ms Buckley's body to her home. This is expected to happen tomorrow, with members of the Buckley family accompanying the body on the flight from Glasgow.
Ms Buckley’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, following Requiem Mass at 2pm at the Church of St Michael the Archangel in Analeentha in Co Cork.
The 24-year old student will be buried at St John's Cemetery in Burnfort, in her home parish of Mourneabbey in north Cork.
Ms Buckley's body will lie in repose at O'Connell's Funeral Home in Mallow from 4-8pm on Monday, followed by removal to the Church.
Earlier, a man has appeared in court in Scotland charged with the murder of Irish student Karen Buckley in Glasgow.
A Crown Office spokesperson said: "Alexander Pacteau, 21, from Glasgow, made a second appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court today charged with the murder of Karen Buckley, and with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
"He made no plea or declaration and was fully committed and remanded in custody.
"No further court dates have been set at this time."
