The mother of a six-year-old boy who was killed outside his home in Kilkenny last June has begun a three-day vigil outside the gates of Leinster House.
Roseanne Brennan and a number of friends and relatives are campaigning for legislation to have speed limits in housing estates reduced to 20km/h.
She says "Jake's Law" is essential to prevent other children from dying in the streets outside their homes.
Jake Brennan was playing in a green area outside his house in Lintown Grove in Kilkenny when he was knocked down.
His parents began the "Jake's Legacy" campaign, which calls for more speed ramps in housing estates and reduced speed limits to make housing estates safer for children.
The speed limit in the majority of residential areas is 50km/h.
Local authorities have the power to reduce the limit by passing bylaws.
