Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has said that she has no intelligence that confirms a newspaper report that Ireland is being used by jihadists as a base to travel to conflicts in the Middle East.
Minister Fitzgerald said the authorities are monitoring the situation carefully.
She said there is a lot of contact and information exchanged with police and intelligence forces internationally.
Ms Fitzgerald said that there is no particular information to suggest there is an immediate threat to Ireland from fighters returning from the Middle East or from anywhere else.
In relation to the possible targeting of Shannon Airport over the US troops transit through it, she said there is no information that suggests a need to increase security at any airport.
She said that whatever level of security is necessary will be in place and vigilance is required by everyone.
Earlier, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said all movements were being monitored "very carefully".
