Trade unions representing second-level teachers are to meet Department of Education representatives next Wednesday in talks aimed at resolving the dispute over Junior Cycle reforms.

The talks will be chaired by Dr Pauric Travers, a former head of St Patrick's College Drumcondra.

Dr Travers was asked to act as a mediator by Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan in December.

However, both the Teachers' Union of Ireland and the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland have said that a second day's strike, scheduled for 22 January, will still go ahead.
