Thousands of school students, teachers and other visitors have been attending the second day of this year's BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.

The exhibition opened to the public this morning.

Second and third rounds of judging are taking place today, ahead of a decision on the prize winners tomorrow.

Today also saw the start of the RDS Primary Science Fair - a showcase of primary science projects which takes place on the margins of the main exhibition.

This year saw a record number of entries for the non-competitive event, up 43% on last year.

In total, 2,700 4th, 5th and 6th class children from around the country will be showing off their projects.

They ask questions such as: 'Why do giraffes have such long necks?' and 'Why don't aeroplanes fall from the sky?'.

Other science shows are also taking place today, including a live fun science demonstration - The Roney and Joe Science Show, as well as the World of Robots, and the Light Fantastic Show.

The popular Titan the robot is also making his annual appearance.
