NUI Galway has clarified that Dr Micheline Sheehy-Skeffington has not been appointed to sit on a task force aimed at reviewing gender equality at the university.
Last week, NUIG President Dr Jim Browne told RTÉ News that Ms Sheehy-Skeffington would sit on the task force.
However, this was later denied by Ms Sheehy-Skeffington.
Today NUIG has said that it understood at the time that an offer of help made by her included membership of the task force.
However, Ms Sheehy-Skeffington has said she does not want to be involved in a process that would "brush the problem, yet again, under the carpet".
She said she would be happy to become involved in improving gender equality at NUIG on condition that the college promotes five other women who were, like her, not appointed to senior positions in 2009.
Ms Sheehy-Skeffington has also called on the college to examine a subsequent round of promotions in 2014, which she says was also flawed.
She said her involvement would also be conditional on the college aiming in the future to have an equal amount of women and men in senior posts.
