The outgoing chairperson of the Revenue Commissioners has been nominated for the position of the head of the new independent policing authority.

Josephine Feehily was nominated by Government this afternoon but cannot be appointed to the position until the legislation establishing the authority is finalised.

Ms Feehily, who applied for the position, will however be involved in the final round of interviews for the new Garda Commissioner position.

The Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald said this evening that Ms Feehily will advise Government on the transition to and the establishment of the new policing authority.
