Registrar of Companies Helen Dixon has been named the new Data Protection Commissioner to succeed Billy Hawkes.
She was appointed Registrar of Companies in December 2009 having previously held senior management positions in the Department of Jobs.
She served an 11 year career in two US IT multinationals - Worth Data Inc and Citrix Systems - that had their EMEA bases in Ireland.
She will take up her appointment over the coming weeks.
She succeeds Mr Hawkes who has held the role for 12 years.
