Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne has been given an order by the High Court preventing Google from publishing a photo of convicted former solicitor Thomas Byrne alongside a profile of the politician.

Senator Byrne, who is a solicitor, claims the publication on the Google Knowledge Graph is clearly and grossly defamatory.

He says Google Ireland Limited has no defence to his claims.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan granted the order under the 2009 Defamation Act, restraining publication of the image of Thomas Byrne, who was convicted last week of 50 counts of theft and fraud, as a photo and description of the Senator.
