More than 10,000 people are estimated to have venerated relics of St Anthony of Padua in Galway.
The relics went on display following 11am mass at Galway Cathedral.
Traffic was very heavy as a result of the numbers travelling to and from the cathedral.
St Anthony was canonised months after his death in 1231.
Almost 800 years later, he is now one of the most loved saints in the Catholic Church.
He is the subject of daily devotion by millions of people searching for lost items.
The relics will travel to Dublin next and on to Belfast.
