A record number of entries have been received for next year's BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
The organisers said half of the secondary schools in Ireland have submitted a project.
They said 2,000 ideas were entered by 4,418 students.
The 50th Young Scientist Exhibition takes place in Dublin in January.
