Raiders have used a JCB to gain entry to Cahir post office in Co Tipperary.
The raiders were disturbed and fled the scene at around 5am.
Some damage was done to the building and the scene was sealed-off for a technical examination.
Gardaí say nothing was taken in the attempted robbery, they are appealing for information about the incident.
