Gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in Cavan have arrested a man in his 40s.

The victim, who was from Romania, was stabbed a number of times when two men broke into his apartment at Connolly Court in Cavan town last night.

He had come to Ireland with his partner, who was also attacked, only a few days ago.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy conducted a post mortem.

Garda forensic officers also examined the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, or anyone who saw anything suspicious, to contact them.
