Fianna Fáil's Justice spokesman, Niall Collins, has renewed the party's calls for the establishment of a Task Force dedicated to addressing violent crime in the Greater Dublin area.

It follows two separate armed raids in Walkinstown and Thomas Street yesterday and a violent robbery and assault on a couple at their home near Bray Co Wicklow.

Mr Collins has called on the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to bring together the gardaí, officials from the HSE and the four local authorities for a special Dublin Task Force charged with making the capital safer.

“The raids yesterday are just the latest in a series of recent violent incidents in the capital, and will be particularly worrying for Dubliners,” he said.
