Cork city residents are being warned to be on alert for bogus callers.
Gardaí say a number of burglaries have been committed in the Ballinlough, Douglas and Rochestown areas in the last few weeks.
Callers to houses have been saying that they are employees of local authorities and need to check gas, power or water supplies.
While the occupant is dealing with the caller, a second person enters the house and steals property.
People are being advised to ask people calling to their home for identification and to report any concerns to gardaí.
