Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte has launched a bilingual booklet on the switchover to digital television after the analogue signal is switched off here on 24 October.
At least 200,000 households still solely depend on the analogue signal.
The Minister acknowledged there will be a small cost to householders to make the switch to Saorview, but said there is no choice if they wish to maintain television viewing.
He said 24 October is the date that analogue services will be also switched off in Northern Ireland and across Europe.
Mr Rabbitte joked that the main objective of reminding people of the need to switchover is so that no-one misses Coronation Street on 25 October.
Some 2.2 million copies of the booklet will be delivered by An Post.
