The jury at the Michaela McAreavey murder trial has been shown CCTV images from the Legends Hotel on the date the Co Tyrone woman was murdered.

The court saw a DVD of a couple arriving at the reception desk of the Mauritius hotel and involved in discussions with personnel for more than two minutes.

A police officer told the court he was 100% satisfied that the people featured were not John and Michaela McAreavey.

He named them from the witness box as a German couple.

The exchanges between the couple at the reception were captured on CCTV the day the 27-year-old teacher was strangled in her room in the luxury complex.

The footage was filmed just after 3pm on 10 January last year, about 15 minutes after the prosecution claims Mrs McAreavey was murdered by two hotel employees.

"I am 100% sure that the couple found at the reception at 3.02pm is not the McAreavey couple and I am able to confirm it," assistant commissioner Yoosoof Soopun said.

He produced documentation to the court relating to the German couple, Harald Hoyer and Savarese Graziella.

The trial has been adjourned until Monday following a request from the defence team for more CCTV footage.
