A collection of photographs and memorabilia relating to the 1932 International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin went on display today at the Dublin City Library & Archive in Pearse Street Library.

The materials include a rare commemorative ceramic plate with images of Dublin and Pope Pius IX.

A number of photographs documenting the Congress and its daily activities as well as chapbooks and hymnals can also be seen.

The 1932 Congress marked the 1,500 anniversary of the arrival of St Patrick to Ireland and original brochures and publications from a conference by the Church of Ireland, which was held in the Mansion house are also on display.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Andrew Montague said it was very appropriate that the items are on display as Dublin Corporation played a significant role in its support for the Eucharistic Congress and the Patrician Conference.

Books from the Mansion House containing the signatures of the international deleages to the events as well as special editions of the Irish Independent and Irish Press published for the event are included in the exhibition.
