A father-of-two has been jailed for a year after being caught with child pornography.
Gerard Sheridan, 46, of Meadow Drive, Hartstown, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, had pleaded guilty.
The child pornography included a selection of Japanese animation known as ''hentai''.
Defence counsel said the case was unusual as 24 of the 27 images were virtual images - no actual children were used to create the images.
A garda investigation led to a search of Sheridan's home where they seized a laptop, DVDs, a floppy disc and an Eircom phone bill.
Sheridan also received a two-year suspended sentence in 2005 for a similar offence.
Judge Petria McDonnell said she could not avoid sending Sheridan to jail and sentenced him to two years with the final year suspended.
