RTÉ unions have called on the station to give clarity as soon as possible about its plans to tackle its deficit.
The station has forecast a deficit of over €50 million for 2012 once restructuring charges of €37 million are factored in.
It has already announced its intention to cut €25 million from its current operating costs this year.
Following a meeting between RTÉ management and the Trade Union Group this morning, union sources said there was inadequate detail about how and where specific cutbacks will be implemented.
€15 million will come from personnel costs - which would be the equivalent of losing 200 staff.
Management sources stressed that the cut in the personnel budget would not necessarily involve 200 direct job losses.
Savings are envisaged on "talent" fees for performers, the use of fewer contractors on lower pay rates, and cuts in allowances.
A further €10 million in savings is being sought from non staff-elements.
The station is currently seeking redundancies under a scheme which closes on 15 June.
Around 170 staff have expressed interest in the scheme - with 30 applications so far - though more applications are expected as the deadline approaches.
In addition, RTÉ wishes to open negotiations on new work practices, efficiencies in administration and other reforms.
It is also examining its regional operations and the use of independent contractors.
The company hopes to implement most of the cost reduction programme by September.
While union representatives were not given any definitive proposals for individual areas, they were told all areas would be affected to a greater or lesser extent.
RTÉ's annual budget is around €350 million - and a cut of €25 million would represent a reduction of between 7% and 8%.
However, management sources stressed the changes were not just about cost reduction, but about repositioning the station for the digital era.
Chairperson of the RTÉ Trade Union Group Mary Curtin said she was disappointed at the lack of detail presented by the management side.
She said this was fuelling anxiety among staff - particularly for those who were facing a difficult decision about whether to take redundancy before 15 June.
Unions expect RTÉ to come back to them next week with comprehensive details of proposed cuts.
