Murder investigation after post mortem on Kilkenny woman's body

A murder investigation has been launched in Co Kilkenny following the results of a post mortem examination on the body of a woman.

Siobhán Stapleton, 51, from Kilfane, near Thomastown, died yesterday after being assaulted outside her home.

A post mortem examination was carried out at Waterford Regional Hospital this afternoon.

Following the results of the post mortem, gardaí have upgraded the investigation to murder.

They are following a definite line of inquiry.

The victim was married and had one son and four daughters.

She was found with serious injuries in the yard of her family home yesterday afternoon.

She was taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny and later died in an ambulance as she was being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
