More than 20,000 people are estimated to have taken part in the 2012 Belfast City Marathon, which got underway at 9am.

The marathon route began at City Hall and finished in Ormeau Park, taking in all parts of the city along the way.

The first man to cross the line was Ethopia's Urga Negewo, who did so in two hours and 13 minutes.

The fastest woman was Alice Chelangat from Kenya, who finished the race in two hours and 39 minutes.

The official nominated charity for this year's event was the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.
