Vita Cortex rejects mediation proposals

The board and management of Vita Cortex have rejected mediation proposals aimed at resolving the four-month dispute at the company over redundancy payments.

In a statement, the company said that the ''guidance proposals'' suggested by the mediators did not provide a solid basis for a resolution to the dispute.

The company said that at this moment in time, it believes it has discharged its duties and obligations as required by all relevant authorities.

SIPTU members at Vita Cortex have reacted with disgust to the refusal by the company to accept guidance, provided by independent mediators, which could have brought an equitable end to the long-running dispute.

“The guidance issued by the independent mediators last Friday (20th April), if accepted by the company, would have provided for a fair and equitable conclusion to this dispute," said SIPTU Organiser, Anne Egar.

Earlier today, workers from Vita Cortex received a standing ovation at the Civil Public and Services Union annual conference in Cork for their four-month sit-in over redundancy payments.

SIPTU official Anne Egar said it was a privilege to represent the workers as the protest entered day 134.

Former worker Sean Kelleher said that they would stand firm in their protest in pursuit of their redundancy payments.
