Bomb planted under car of PSNI officer's parents in Derry

Dissident republicans are being blamed after a pipe bomb was left under a car owned by the parents of a police officer in Derry.

The PSNI says it is treating the incident as attempted murder.

The device was left under the car on Sunday night on Drumleck Drive in Shantallow.

Police say the serving officer does not live in the house, and the family was targeted in a similar attack in 2009.

Superintendent Chris Yates said he was in no doubt as to the motivation for the attempted pipe bomb attack.

The police say the officer whose parents were targeted remains determined to continue with his PSNI career.
