Gardaí are investigating after a bank clerk was shot at his home in Tallaght in Dublin last night.

The 32-year-old man was shot in the legs when he answered his front door at Corbally Green at around 10.45pm last night.

He is still being treated at Tallaght Hospital today.

Detectives in Tallaght say they are baffled by the incident and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

A gunman with a scarf around his face fired five shots from a 9mm handgun and hit the man three times in the legs.

The victim's partner and ten-year-old child were in the house at the time.

The man, who works as a bank clerk but has been off sick, is not known to gardaí and has no criminal convictions.

Detectives do not know why he was shot and are examining the possibility of mistaken identity.
