The Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an explosive device in Drimnagh in Dublin early this morning.
The device, described as viable, was discovered near a car on Galtymore Road just after 2am.
A number of houses had to be evacuated while the operation took place.
Residents were able to return to their homes at around 4am.
