A man has died following a collision between a stolen taxi and a van in Co Meath.
The taxi had been hijacked in Inchicore in Dublin at around 11.40pm last night.
It is understood two men got into the taxi, one in the passenger seat and one in the rear seat.
The front seat passenger then threatened the driver with a knife and demanded to be taken to a location.
However, the driver jumped out and the two men then drove off at speed in his car.
This car was involved in the crash around 30 minutes later on the N2 Slane to Collon road.
The two men in the taxi, both in their 20s, were thrown from the vehicle as a result of the impact.
They were brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where one of the men was pronounced dead. The second man remains in a serious condition.
A couple from the Collon area were travelling in the van. They are being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Diversions are in place and the road is to remain closed today to allow for a technical examination at the scene.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who saw either car or the crash to come forward.
