A support group for survivors of institutional child abuse has called on the Government to publish its plans for a statutory trust fund, which is to be set up by the Religious Orders and the Government.

Right of Place said it is essential that details of the exact supports to be administered from the trust fund are made known.

The Department of Education has said legislation to establish the fund is expected shortly and no further details are available until then.

The group has also called for family members of survivors to be included in any supports that are made available from the fund.

Right of Place, which got funding of €260,000 last year, runs outreach programmes around the country.

It said it was contacted 5,393 times in the past year.

The three main areas that families and survivors needed help with were housing, welfare and education.
