Two men appear in court over Cavan death

Two men have appeared before a special sitting of Cavan District Court this evening, charged in connection with the death of a man at a house party last weekend.

Garry Wright of Headford Grove in Kells, Co Meath, and Sean Smith of St Cilllian's Park in Mullagh, Co Cavan, were both charged with assaulting Ciaran O'Connell, causing him harm.

Both men were granted bail and are due back before the District Court in Cavan on 27 March.

Mr O'Connell, 22, had gone to the party at a rented house in his home village of Mullagh on 17 March and was seriously injured in an incident in the early hours of the morning.

He died in Beaumont Hospital on Wednesday and gardaí began a murder investigation.
