The Food Safety Authority has said that six premises were closed last month for breaches of food safety laws.

Three of the businesses closed were in Dublin. They were the Oriental Express in Monkstown; the New Magic Wok in Santry; and Chief Chang’s Buffet in Omni Park Shopping Centre, Santry.

The other premises closed were T/A Romany Stone Limited in Kilbride, Co Wicklow; Nice Star Takeaway in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim; and parts of Monks Bar & Restaurant in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare.

An Improvement Order was served on Smiths of Phibsboro public house in Phibsboro, Dublin.

A Prohibition Order was served on Paddy Cullen of Wexford Harbour in Co Wexford.

A successful prosecution was also carried out by the HSE West Region on Chris McCaul of Sligo Event Catering, Trading at Bonniconlon Show in Bonniconlon, Co Mayo.

FSA chief executive Prof Alan Reilly said he was disappointed that the eight enforcement orders served in February was double the number served in January.

He said it is imperative that every food business takes responsibility for its own food safety management plan, in line with the legislation.
