Up to 200 new prison officers are being recruited by the prison service in Northern Ireland.
The new recruits will be paid between £18,000 and £23,000 (€21–27,000) a year, which is considerably less than the pay of existing officers.
The recruitment campaign comes alongside a redundancy scheme in the prison service, where almost 400 staff have applied to leave.
Catholics and women are being particularly encouraged to apply for the new positions.
