A 29-year-old man has been given a life sentence after he was found guilty of murdering another man who died after he was thrown into the River Shannon in Limerick two years ago.

Kevin Coughlan, of Avondale Drive, Greystones in Limerick, had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Francis Greene at Steamboat Quay in the city in November 2009.

But he was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court this afternoon.

The court was told that the body of Mr Greene, 47, was found on a bank of the River Shannon in Co Clare in February 2010.
