A taxi driver is being treated in hospital following an alleged assault in Dublin city centre overnight.

Gardaí say the 41-year-old was attacked by a man near the junction of Erne Street at around 12.20am.

He was taken to St James's Hospital where he is said to be in a serious condition.

No arrests have been made.
